The Department of Public Works is responsible for planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and repairing the physical facilities of the County including its roads, bridges, buildings and grounds. It performs the function of County Engineer and directs the operations of the Highway Division County Road Fund that is administered by the Deputy Commissioner of Highways. Erie County DPW plans, develops implements and supervises all public works programs, including the County’s capital program, normal operations and maintenance.
The Department performs public works, highways and other functions as prescribed by New York State law and the Erie County Charter and Administrative Code.
